SALPA is the classic Italian bonded leather made from recycled leather fibres. It is the go-to reinforcement for leather goods: light, flexible, easy to skive and glue, and it gives bags, wallets and straps body without making them stiff.
This is the dark version – perfect behind dark and black leathers, where a light reinforcement could show at the edges.
How to use
- Thin grades (0.3–0.6 mm) are ideal for reinforcing bags, wallets, straps and small leather goods.
- Thicker grades (0.8–1.0 mm) give more structure, e.g. for bag bottoms, flaps and as a layer under insoles.
- Always place Salpa between two other materials (leather/leather, leather/fabric) to avoid waves in the finished piece.
- Thin grades can be torn by hand to get a soft, feathered edge; from 1.0 mm it should be cut.
Storage: Keep away from very dry or very wet places and out of direct light – like natural leather it oxidises over time.
