This is a PDF pattern to create a leather cross-body bag - The Beam Bag. The Beam Bag is a one-piece leather bag.
This means we will fold and stitch just one panel of leather to create the bag. Designed for a cross-body carry, The Beam Bag is light-weight, with a touch of hippie vibes and will pack a ton.
A fun, relatively quick build that can be a bit of a mind bender the first time you make it. The leather PDF template includes a pattern to make an adjustable leather strap. The second option is to use a purse chain of various lengths for a light stylish carry. Alternatively, you can make a fixed-length leather strap using the included patterns. Bag dimensions:
28/28/2cm ~ 11/11/0.8 inches
Skill level: Advanced
Leather: 1.6-1.8mm thickness (4-4.5oz), soft to medium temper
> You will need a 79/20cm (~32/8in) leather panel for the bag which is approximately 1.7 sq feet of leather.
> The build requires baseball stitching that is also explained step by step with pictures in the instructions file in case you have not used it before.
Strap options:
1. Purse Chain between 80cm and 100cm long for cross-body carry. Those are available in many variations online when searching for a “purse chain”. They usually come with swivel clasp buckles already attached to them.
> 2 x 20mm D-rings OR 2 x 5mm eyelets
2. Leather Strap
> 2-2.2mm thickness (5-5.5oz) leather. The strap is 20mm (4/5inches) wide and you need two pieces – one 48cm (~19in) long and one 90cm (~35in) long.
> 4mm and 5mm hole punches
> 2 x 20mm D-rings OR 2 x 5mm eyelets
> 2 x 20mm swivel clasp buckles
> 1 x 20mm whole belt buckle
Basic Instructions
> Print pattern at 100% and verify size using the Print Accuracy Test. Measure and cut on the outside edge of the lines. Stitching holes in the pattern are spaced at 3.85mm, however illustrative in nature. You can use other spacing based on your pricking irons/stitching chisels. Please read through the Pattern Layout page in the pattern file and the Assembly Instructions file before commencing the build.
